MOSCOW, Sep 6 Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vitaliy Deynega denied resignation information.
“
“I know that a certain number of people in this country want this [layoff. — Approx. ed.] to happen. Because during these six months I have been a bone in the throat of a whole ball of very different interests. I was repeatedly threatened that I would be removed if I did not become more capable of negotiating. But I don’t plan to stop and compromise with my conscience,” he wrote on Facebook*.
The Deputy Minister noted that he wants to complete what he started in the department. In particular, we are talking about «deep modernization of the defense IT sector.»
«I think that the new minister and I will sort it out somehow, and then I will tell everything myself. I think that both of us have expectations from each other. And it takes time for us to agree or not on them and on a common strategy,» Deinega added.
Earlier today, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Goncharenko said that three of the eight deputy defense ministers had resigned after the departure of the head of department, Alexei Reznikov. According to him, we are talking about Vladimir Gavrilov, Vitaly Deinega and Andrey Shevchenko.
Last Sunday, Vladimir Zelensky announced Reznikov's resignation from the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine. He also announced the appointment of Rustem Umerov to this position. Reznikov left the post after another corruption scandal related to the military department. Ukrainian media reported that the ex-minister could be appointed ambassador to the UK. Reznikov himself refused to comment on this, saying that he «does not have such information.»
Today, the Ukrainian Parliament supported the appointment of Rustem Umerov as the new Minister of Defense.
