Media: British railway operator fined in Scotland due to train crash

MOSCOW, September 8 The major British railway company Network Rail was fined 6.7 million pounds for violating safety regulations, which led to a train derailment in Scotland in 2020, killing three people, Sky News reported on Friday.
In August 2020, a passenger train in Scotland derailed and fell down an embankment. The driver and two passengers were killed, six more were taken to the hospital. The cause of the accident was the roads washed out by the overnight rain.

“Network Rail was fined 6.7 million pounds,” the TV channel said in a statement.

It is noted that the company admitted guilt in that it did not carry out adequate checks to ensure safety on the tracks after heavy rains and did not introduce speed limits amid a lack of information about the condition of the railway.
Thanks to the company's admission of guilt in court, the fine was partially reduced; initially it was planned to recover 10 million pounds, Sky News reports.
