MOSCOW, September 7 The Bank of Russia has allowed credit institutions to sell cash dollars and euros to the population without restrictions, follows from the press release.
It is clarified that the regulator removed from the message the phrase that it will be possible to sell only the currency that arrived at the cash desks from April 9, 2022.
At the same time, the Central Bank extended until March 9, 2024 restrictions on the withdrawal of cash foreign currency from accounts. We are talking about those whose account or deposit was opened before March 9, 2022. For these people, a limit on currency withdrawal is maintained in the amount of the balance as of 00:00 Moscow time on the specified date. In this case, you can cash out no more than ten thousand dollars or the equivalent amount in euros, regardless of the currency of the deposit or account. This is possible provided that the owner has not yet used this opportunity.
The remaining funds can still be cashed in rubles. In this case, the amount paid cannot be less than that calculated on the day of payment at the Central Bank exchange rate for funds placed in the account before September 9 of last year. Funds placed starting from this date are issued at the bank’s exchange rate. Foreign currency can be received in dollars or euros, regardless of the currency of the deposit or account.
Last time, the Bank of Russia extended restrictions on cash withdrawals also for six months — until September 9, 2023. The Central Bank explained this decision by Western sanctions: the USA and the EU banned the supply of dollar and euro banknotes to Russia.
