WASHINGTON, September 7The United States intends to deliver depleted uranium shells to Ukraine in time for the delivery of Abrams tanks, which could be there as early as the fall, said deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh.
“»The goal is to have the shells there, specifically at the time when the tanks arrive (will be there),” she told reporters.
Earlier, the newspaper Politico, citing an unnamed Pentagon representative, reported that Kiev will receive the first 10 American Abrams tanks in mid-September.
On September 6, the Pentagon announced the transfer of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine as part of a new package $175 million in military aid. According to a press release, the announced deliveries from US military warehouses included 120mm shells for Abrams tanks with a depleted uranium core.
Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. He emphasized that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy, and other countries.
