In Russia, the websites of the student magazine “Groza” from Kazan and the “Ark” project were blocked

The editors of the student magazine “Groza” from Kazan reported that their website was unavailable in Russia. The Ark project, which organized shelters abroad for Russians who fled because of the war, was also included in the register of blocked sites.

The name of the department that demanded the restrictions was hidden in the Roskomnadzor register. The Roskomsvoboda project, which studies blocking in Russia, previously suggested that in such cases we are probably talking about censorship by the Prosecutor General's Office of publications about the war in Ukraine.

The magazine “Groza”, which was called “Wind” before the start of the war in Ukraine, appeared in 2020 in Kazan. Their first publications were devoted to the problems of the Kazan Federal University. Later they began to write about cases of corruption and censorship in universities in other regions, as well as about the participation of students in politics, youth protests and military propaganda at universities.

The “Ark” project unites shelters in Kazakhstan and Armenia , Turkey and Poland, which temporarily accept people who left Russia because of the war in Ukraine. They also conduct language classes, interest clubs, and lectures on job hunting and immigration law in different countries. The Ark page was already blocked last year, when it was on the website of the Anti-War Committee of Russia.
