We need new support vehicles, electronic warfare and air defense equipment
Tankman Day is celebrated in Russia on September 10. The well-known military expert, editor-in-chief of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Viktor Murakhovsky noted in his channel that in weapons programs the tasks of developing the potential of the Ground Forces, including the armored component, are brought to the fore. He named ways to improve tank technology.
The expert, who once graduated from the Kazan Tank School, named the key needs of tank units in the Northern Military District: closed communication means that allow communication with infantry, artillery and all interacting bodies; “boxes” of dynamic protection against anti-tank shells and missiles installed on tanks; software for firing from a closed firing position; tank electronic warfare (EW) systems; means of camouflage.
According to Murakhovsky, the T-72B3 tanks in the 2023 modernization version, T-90M, T-80BVM, T-62MV-1 are currently fighting in the Northern Military District zone. But the newest T-14 Armata tanks have not been seen in the North Military District zone. According to him, the company of Armata tanks in the army was disbanded, and it was decided to modify the tanks.
“When will he appear in the troops? Not earlier than next year,” says Viktor Murakhovsky.
He believes that the T-14 “Armata” will fully play a leading role on the battlefield when it will be in a single armored combat formation along with a heavy combat infantry vehicle (BMP) T-15 «Barberry». They will advance following the firing line of a mobile firing zone supplied by the latest 2S35 Coalition-SV artillery system.
To support the advance of these forces, mobile anti-tank missile systems based on the MT-LB multifunctional armored personnel carrier will also be required; anti-aircraft missile and gun systems «Tunguska-M1» and anti-aircraft missile systems «Tor-M2»; mine clearing unit UR-77; BMR-3M obstacle clearing combat vehicles; tank bridge laying machines MTU-90; artillery reconnaissance vehicles PRP-5; combat vehicles of the BOMAN aircraft controller; tank electronic warfare equipment.
“All calculations have been carried out, the composition of forces and assets has been determined,” concluded Viktor Murakhovsky.
