About 2.6 billion people do not have access to the Internet, UN says

GENEVA, 12 Sep About 2.6 billion people around the world do not have access to the Internet as of 2023, this is 100 million fewer people than in 2022, says a statement on the website of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at the UN.
“According to the latest data from ITU, the UN agency for technology, the number of people in the world not connected to the Internet fell to approximately 2.6 billion people in 2023. An estimated 2.7 billion people were not connected in 2022, and in 2023, this number will decline, leaving 33% of the world's population still unconnected; 5.4 billion people, representing 67% of the world's population, are now connected.

According to the organization, the most intensive growth in the number of Internet connections continues to be observed in low-income countries, where over the past year the number of Internet users increased by approximately 17%.

«This expansion of connectivity is another step in the right direction to ensure that no one is left behind, which is consistent with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We will work tirelessly until world, real connectivity will not become a reality for everyone, no matter where they are,” ITU Secretary-General Dorina Bogdan-Martina is quoted in the document.
