VOSTOCHNY COSMODROME (Amur Region), September 13. Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, the correspondent reports.
A day earlier, the head of state himself spoke about plans to visit the cosmodrome, but did not disclose the program of his stay.
Construction of the cosmodrome began in 2012 in accordance with Putin’s decree of November 6, 2007. As part of the first stage, by 2016, launch and technical complexes for launching medium-class rockets of the Soyuz-2 type (Soyuz-2.1a, Soyuz -2.1b») with automatic spacecraft. Also at the cosmodrome, a mobile service tower 52 meters high was built, with which you can prepare the launch vehicle at the launch complex in all weather conditions.
A command and measurement point was also put into operation there, and the construction of 115 kilometers of automobile roads was completed and about 115 kilometers of railways that connected the Vostochny facilities and the cosmodrome itself with the city of Tsiolkovsky under construction. Builders erected and reconstructed three bridges. In addition, a supply system was created at the cosmodrome that fully supplies the launch and technical complexes, as well as its administrative center with electricity.
The first launch from Vostochny took place on April 28, 2016 — the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle launched scientific and educational satellites «Lomonosov» and «Aist-2D», as well as the student nanosatellite SamSat-218, into low-Earth orbit. A total of 13 launches have taken place since 2016.
