BAIKONUR, September 14An emergency situation related to the depressurization of the cooling system, like the one that occurred on the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft, is included in the on-board documentation, new crews are already practicing on simulators how to escape from it, Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko told reporters on Thursday.
“»An emergency… it is included in our books, in our on-board documentation, now there is a standard way out of it, and we worked out these actions in simulators,» Kononenko said at the pre-flight press conference.
The launch of the Soyuz-2.1a rocket with the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft is scheduled for September 15. Its crew included Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub, as well as NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara. Kononenko and Chub will spend a year on the ISS, O'Hara — six months. About 60 scientific experiments are planned for the Russians, including seven new ones, and up to four spacewalks.
Depressurization of the cooling system circuit of the Soyuz MS-22 occurred on December 15, 2022. For the return of cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev, Dmitry Petelin and astronaut Frank Rubio, it was decided to send the next Soyuz MS-23 in an unmanned version. The faulty Soyuz MS-22 descended on March 28 with returning equipment not as sensitive to elevated temperatures as humans.
