From September 16, Finland will ban entry into the country in cars with Russian license plates

Finland, following Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, will ban entry into the country on cars with Russian license plates from September 16, said the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Elina Valtonen, her words are reported by the Yle TV channel.

According to Valtonen, the rules there will be exceptions: the ban will not affect EU citizens and their relatives, as well as employees of diplomatic missions and those entering Finland for humanitarian reasons.

Cars with Russian license plates that are already in Finland will have to leave the country in for six months, that is, until March 16, 2024.

On September 12, the Finnish authorities reported that they had decided not to follow the recommendations of the European Commission and not to confiscate cars registered in Russia at the border, but promised to announce changes in the rules in advance if the decision changes.

The day before, the Latvian tax service said that it would not confiscate cars with Russian license plates from Russians if the cars are already in the country.

On September 8, the European Commission issued a clarification according to which Russians, even during tourist trips, will not be able to enter the EU territory in cars registered in Russia.
