GROZNY, September 14 An apartment building caught fire after a gas explosion in Makhachkala, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Dagestan reported.

"The 112 system received a message that in the village of Semender (Makhachkala urban district) <…> “There was a burst of gas-air mixture in an apartment building,” the department emphasized.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found out that the incident occurred in an apartment on the fourth floor of a five-story residential building. After the explosion, a fire began, the press service added.
Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the fire area was 600 square meters. The open fire was extinguished; according to preliminary data, there were no casualties. 87 people and 27 pieces of equipment were involved in the extinguishing.
In turn, the Dagestan prosecutor's office began checking the incident. The agency will assess compliance with the requirements when operating gas equipment. The progress and results of the inspection were put under control.
The authorities of Makhachkala stated that the residential building where the emergency occurred was built without permission and was not put into operation.
