MOSCOW, September 15A high-speed railway (HSR) may in the future connect Vladivostok and Khabarovsk, said the head of the Ministry of Eastern Development Alexey Chekunkov.
«»In some future… it would be interesting to work on a project and connect them with a faster connection. I think this will not happen in the next few years, but sooner or later we will see. Since a number of high-speed railway projects are already being implemented in Russia, I think someday Vladivostok and Khabarovsk will live to see this,” Chekunkov told reporters after the final press conference on the results of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF 2023), which was held at the International Multimedia Press Center of the Rossiya Segodnya media group.
According to him, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok are two great Far Eastern cities with different characters. “My dream is for them to be connected into some kind of agglomeration. Today, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok residents quite often come to visit each other,” the minister added.
Chekunkov noted that the transfer of the capital of the Far Eastern Federal District from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok in 2018 did not bring changes for the worse.
“»Definitely not in Khabarovsk, but in Vladivostok there are a little more executive branch employees. Probably, after all, this (moving the capital of the Far Eastern Federal District to Vladivostok — ed.) is correct. Because Vladivostok is a seaport, the end point of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Since we managed to implement this without detracting from the advantages of Khabarovsk, but adding something to Vladivostok, it means it was the right decision,” the minister believes.
