Poland will ban the entry of cars registered in Russia

WARSAW, September 16 Poland will ban the entry of passenger cars into its territory cars registered in Russia, said the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Mariusz Kaminski.
“»In connection with the publication on September 8 of the recommendations of the European Commission regarding the ban on the entry into the EU of cars registered in Russia, this ban at the Polish border will apply from tomorrow and will come into force today at midnight,” Kaminski said.
The Polish minister recalled that previously trucks with Russian registration were banned from entering Poland, and now Warsaw is “finalizing this matter.”

“Not a single Russian car will enter Poland,” he emphasized.

Kaminsky clarified that the ban applies to absolutely all cars with Russian license plates.

"This applies to all cars, both commercially used and private cars, regardless of whether the owner of the car is a citizen of Russia or a citizen of another state. The principle is this: a car registered in Russia does not have the right to enter Poland,” the minister explained.

This week, the decision to ban the entry of cars with Russian registration was made by Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

On September 8, the European Commission published an explanation in which it said that the sanctions imposed by the EU Council against Russia back in 2022 also apply to personal cars with Russian registration plates. Accordingly, Russians cannot enter the territory of the European Union in personal cars, even for tourism purposes and even for a short period.

From the text it formally follows that many goods are also subject to the ban, including phones, laptops, clothing and hygiene products . At the same time, the EC indicated that EU countries should be guided by common sense and not interfere with the import of ordinary personal items that cannot be classified as luxury goods.
The Permanent Representation of Moscow to the European Union in a comment did not rule out that the customs services of the member states of the association will begin to confiscate at the borders Russians have personal belongings. They noted that the latest clarifications from the European Commission are actually aimed at making it impossible for Russians to enter the EU.
