The head of Roscosmos named the cause of the crash of Luna-25

< strong>MOSCOW, September 16. The automatic interplanetary station Luna-25 crashed due to the fact that the accelerometers did not turn on and did not transmit the information necessary to turn off the engine, Roscosmos General Director Yuri Borisov told reporters.

"The corrective engine did not stop working work based on information from the accelerometer, this is the device that shows changes in speed,” Borisov said at a press conference.

He clarified that the failure was caused by the failure to turn on the accelerometers. The reason for this is now being established.

In total, according to the head of Roscosmos, there are 16 versions of what happened, 11 of which have already been verified. The trial is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.

Malfunction of «Bius-L»

The fact that the cause of the crash of the interplanetary station «Luna-25» may be a malfunction of the device for measuring orientation and acceleration «Bius-L», which this has not been tested in space, the source said earlier.

“Yes, it can,” the agency’s interlocutor answered the corresponding question.

According to him, the device is designed to determine the orientation of the space station and determine the flight speed. He transmits this data to the station’s computer, and it issues a command to the engine.
The interlocutor especially noted that the main sign of the reliability of any device is its flight testing. “Between a new device and a proven device, it is always better to choose the second option,” he said. However, «Bius-L» was not tested in space.

The source emphasized that a malfunction of the navigation device is only one of the versions, the final decision will be made

The work will continue

Failure of the Luna-25 mission does not mean that Russia will complete the lunar program, it has excellent competencies in space, an analysis of the causes of the crash will be carried out, President Vladimir Putin said earlier.

«This is a difficult job, of course. An appropriate analysis will be carried out, the work will continue. It is a pity, of course, that the lunar landing did not take place, but this does not mean that we will complete the development. We will continue to work,» he said at the plenary meeting of the WEF.
The Soyuz 2.1b rocket with the first domestic lunar station in almost half a century launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on August 11. Five days later, the device entered lunar orbit. On August 19, Roscosmos reported an emergency situation on board that prevented the transition to a pre-landing orbit with the specified parameters. The next day, the state corporation reported that Luna-25 switched to an off-design orbit, collided with the Earth’s satellite and ceased to exist.
