WASHINGTON, September 15 The United States and its Western allies, after Russia’s withdrawal from the grain deal, managed to achieve an 800% increase in the volume of Ukrainian grain supplies via alternative routes, stated the Friday, Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power.
“Since July… we have been able to increase the flow of food through these alternative routes (river, rail and land) by 800%,” Power said during a discussion organized at the Foreign Policy magazine.
The grain deal ceased on July 18, the Russian Federation notified Turkey, Ukraine and the UN of its objection to its extension. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously noted that the terms of the deal regarding Russia were not fulfilled, despite the efforts of the UN, because Western countries were not going to fulfill their promises. Putin has repeatedly pointed out that the West exported most of Ukrainian grain to its own states, and the main goal of the deal — supplying grain to countries in need, including African ones — was never realized.
This week, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that there is still no progress on the issue of resuming the grain deal.
