BRUSSELS, September 16 Head of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer complained about lagging defense production capacity, slow deliveries and rising prices, and concluded that allies' increased defense spending today does not translate into greater real security.
Following the results of the NATO summit in Vilnius in July of this year, the alliance countries agreed to increase defense spending and agreed on a minimum level of such spending at 2% of GDP.
«»Much must be done not only to protect against present threats, but also against potential future threats. To do this, we need a completely different approach to cooperation between the state and private producers in the defense and security sector. Today the Chiefs of Staff expressed there is concern that the alliance's production capacity is lagging behind,» Bauer said at a news conference in Norway, where the alliance's annual chiefs of staff conference is taking place.
According to him, defense supplies are slowing down and prices are rising. “We are paying more and more for the same thing, which means that we cannot be sure that increasing defense spending today will actually lead to greater security,” stated the head of the military committee.
