The new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was shown to Europeans: they will have a diesel engine

In the Old World, accepting orders for a fresh all-terrain vehicle will open in October. However, the cars will still reach buyers only next year.

The world online premiere of the new generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV with the factory index J250 took place in early August, then the company simultaneously presented versions for America and Europe. And not so long ago, Toyota staged another presentation in the Old World — this time “live”: the all-terrain vehicle was shown in Germany as part of the Buschtaxi event, which was organized for fans of the brand. By the way, in this country, as in many other markets, the SUV does not have the “surname” Prado, which is familiar to Russians — there it is just Land Cruiser or Land Cruiser 250 (after all, they don’t sell the “300th” there).

Let us remind you that in the new generation the SUV retained its frame structure, but it moved to the GA-F platform, which also underlies the new Lexus GX and older models of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX. The Prado has grown noticeably: length is 4925 mm (+100 mm compared to its predecessor), width – 1980 mm (+95 mm), height – 1870 mm (+20 mm). The wheelbase is the same 2850 mm as that of the Land Cruiser 300 (the figure for the previous Prado is 2790 mm). The new vehicle's rated ground clearance is 220 mm, the approach angle is 30 or 31 degrees (depending on the version), the departure angle is 22 degrees.

The First Edition welcome series SUV was demonstrated in Germany. Features of such a car are round headlights instead of rectangular ones, a “sand” body color (a second color is also provided: in Germany it is Smoky Blue, and, for example, in France it is Graphite Grey), stickers with the name of the configuration and an impressive list of equipment. Note that in the States, other versions of the model also have round headlights, but it is not yet known for sure whether other versions of the European Land Cruiser 250 will get such optics. In total, approximately 3,000 cars of the First Edition series will be made for Europe.

At the first stage, the new SUV will be available in the Old World with a 1GD-FTV 2.8 turbodiesel (204 hp, 500 Nm) in combination with a six- or eight-speed automatic transmission (depending on the market). And in 2025, the diesel all-terrain vehicle will turn into a “mild” hybrid in Western Europe: the model will receive a 48-volt starter-generator. In Eastern Europe and Japan there will still be a naturally aspirated petrol 2TR-FE 2.7 (163 hp, 246 Nm), plus in the Eastern European and Middle Eastern markets they will offer cars with a petrol four-cylinder turbo engine T24A-FTS 2.4 (281 hp, 430 Nm) and 8 automatic transmission. Finally, in North America and China there will be a full-fledged hybrid (but without the ability to charge from the mains) with the i-Force Max installation: this is the same turbo-four, as well as an electric motor built into the eight-speed automatic and a modest battery with a capacity of 1.87 kWh; the total output of this LC Prado is 330 hp. and 630 Nm. But the V6 engine has become the prerogative of its premium brother – Lexus GX.

As before, the Prado has permanent all-wheel drive, a center limited-slip differential and a reduction gear. There are also two locks and an off-road “cruise” Crawl Control, and the Multi-Terrain Select system now has more driving modes (they also work with activated downshift).

European dealers will open orders for the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in October of this year, and then, apparently, prices will be announced. But the first cars will reach their owners only in the spring of 2024.
