Sierra Leone began negotiations with Russia on the import of fertilizers

UN, September 20 Sierra Leone began negotiations with Russia on the import of fertilizers and aims to strengthen relations in this area, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the African state, Timothy Kabba, said in an interview. He noted that at the end of 2023 he plans to visit Moscow for negotiations on this topic.

“We have begun discussions with our Russian counter-partners and intend to deepen these relations,” the minister said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, when asked whether there had been discussions with Moscow on the issue of fertilizer supplies.

Kabba added that he would visit Moscow at the end of 2023 and hoped for a “good discussion” on how Russian fertilizers, technologies and seeds could be imported to Sierra Leone.

In August, Sierra Leone's Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Yongawo, said that Freetown would like to receive Russian fertilizers, but not necessarily on a free basis.
