The Savelovsky District Court of Moscow received a petition for the arrest of 46-year-old Alexander Serebryakov, accused of financing “extremist activities” (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). Mediazona found this information in the court database.
It is not yet known what exactly Serebryakov is charged with.
In February 2021, the same court already arrested Serebryakov, but under the article on participation in the activities of an “extremist organization” (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code), then the charge was reclassified as organizing the activities of such an organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 UK). As a result, in August 2022, the Golovinsky court sentenced him to 6 years of suspended imprisonment.
The case was opened due to Serebryakov’s involvement in the religious association Jehovah’s Witnesses. According to investigators, a group of believers from 2017 to 2021 met and read religious literature, and also held online meetings. At the same time, the Supreme Court banned the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia in 2017.
According to the website of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, Serebryakov worked as a carpenter, then as a security guard. In addition, he took care of his elderly disabled mother.
