MOSCOW, September 21 The National Commission of Ukraine for State Language Standards has authorized write the words “Russia”, “Russian Federation”, “Moscow” with a small letter in unofficial texts, writes the Ukrainian News agency.
Verkhovna Rada Deputy Maxim Buzhansky reported on September 7 that the Minister of Education of Ukraine Oksen Lisovoy signed an order according to which the words “Russian Federation” must be written in capital letters in the country, contrary to recent practice in Ukraine. Lisovoy later explained that the ministry he heads decided to write the words “Russian Federation” in documents in capital letters due to the requirements of the Ministry of Justice.
«The National Commission on State Language Standards… reports that the spelling of the names «Russian Federation», «Russia», «Moscow», «Muscovy», «Moscow Kingdom», «Russian Empire», «State Duma of the Russian Federation» and so on further with a lowercase letter may not be qualified as a deviation from the norms of the Ukrainian language in texts of an unofficial nature,” writes “Ukrainian News” with reference to the statement of the National Commission for State Language Standards.
