NEW YORK, September 21 President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi called the tension between Baku and Yerevan unacceptable and called for dialogue between the countries.
«The tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan are unacceptable. And they can be resolved through dialogue. We spoke with both sides. The Foreign Minister sent messages and proposals, and we continue to believe that the solution for them is dialogue,» Raisi said on press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
On September 19, Azerbaijan began “anti-terrorism measures of a local nature” to restore the constitutional order in Karabakh. Yerevan called what was happening aggression and stated that there were no Armenian units in Karabakh. A day later, through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, an agreement was reached on a ceasefire in Karabakh; among the conditions of the truce, in particular, the disarmament of Armenian forces and the withdrawal of heavy equipment were outlined.
