Police detained a 28-year-old resident of the Kaliningrad region, suspected of setting fire to an installation in the form of the letter Z in Belgorod, the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told TASS.
The department claims that during a search the suspect was found with “items similar to a grenade and TNT block.” The Belgorod police did not say that any case had been initiated.
According to the telegram channel “Operational Reports”, a criminal case was opened against the detainee for vandalism based on political hatred (Part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code).
The luminous installation in the shape of the letter Z caught fire on the night of September 18, Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov reported. According to the mayor of the city, the structure was “virtually undamaged” — the fire was extinguished by the driver of a passing car.
Telegram channel “Belgorod No. 1” published a video in which a man in white pants and a black jacket approaches the letter Z, after which it lights up. Then several cars drive up to the installation, the drivers of which extinguish it until the firefighters arrive.
