    MOSCOW, September 21 A third of Russians believe that authors of intellectual property works should receive royalties for each downloaded copy of their work, while more than half of respondents (52 percent) are convinced that demanding payment for viewing and downloading music and books is wrong, a VTsIOM survey showed.
    According to the results of the study, according to 34 percent of respondents, the authors of films, music and books should receive money from consumers for the use of their works, while 52 percent disagree with them, because they believe that the level of income of the population is already low.

    In addition, according to 41 percent of respondents, the law should protect the rights of authors of films, music, books and other intellectual property; 39 percent believe that after the publication of a work, the author cannot prohibit people from using it for free. Compared to 2013, the current rate of those who actively consume unlicensed content has decreased by 13 percent: 52 percent ten years ago and 39 percent today.

    When asked what needs to be done to combat the spread of unlicensed copies of films and TV series on the Internet, the majority said ensuring low prices for viewing or downloading (63 percent), while almost everyone a fourth Russian (23 percent) proposed tightening legislation against creators and distributors of unlicensed copies.
    The All-Russian telephone survey «VTsIOM-Sputnik» was conducted on September 10, 2023 among 1,600 Russians over the age of 18. The maximum sampling error with a probability of 95 percent does not exceed 2.5 percent.
