Strelna, September 20Domestic art and Russian artists have faced serious discrimination, but those who seek to erase Russian culture from the world heritage are robbing themselves; such actions are insignificant against the background of the greatness of Russian art, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“»Russian, domestic art, our artists are faced with quite aggressive discrimination, with attempts to cancel our history, music, ballet, theatre, literature, painting, our achievements in this area,” he said at a meeting of the board of trustees of the Mariinsky Theater.
“Obviously, those who have taken this path, who seek to erase Russian, Russian culture from the world heritage, are first of all robbing themselves. Such actions are insignificant against the background of the greatness of Russian art,” Putin said.
Putin thanked the board of trustees of the Mariinsky Theater for their assistance both in the current activities of the theater and in the implementation of cultural and educational initiatives.
“Now such support is especially important,” the president said.
In in turn, the general director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev spoke about what was done thanks to the help of the board of trustees.
“With the enormous support of the board of trustees… we built a high-quality concert hall, with incredibly good acoustics. It was a fast-paced project, who made such a gift to St. Petersburg in 15 months,” said Gergiev.
