MOSCOW, September 25 Famous traveler Fyodor Konyukhov plans to make the first ever solo passage across the Pacific Ocean on a solar-powered catamaran with a scientific program to study microplastics, he said traveler to journalists.
“I’m leaving for six months, my program is microplastics in the ocean. I’ll go on a catamaran, it will be solar-powered,” Konyukhov told reporters.
The traveler’s official website clarifies that as part of the project, Konyukhov must make the first ever solo passage across the Pacific Ocean on a solar-powered catamaran. During the first stage of the expedition, the traveler will travel across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean Islands. The second stage is from Chile to Australia across the Pacific Ocean.
During the transition, Konyukhov will keep a video diary and conduct environmental monitoring of the ocean, daily noting the presence or absence of plastic waste in sea water. The construction of the catamaran is planned to be completed this year.
Konyukhov emphasized that his travels always include a scientific program, although this is not often mentioned in the media.
“»I arrived, I haven’t landed yet, everyone knows that I broke the world record. But they took the science, deciphered it, and six months later they published a small book… interesting only for scientists, for a small circle,” the traveler added.< br />
