The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova, after the publication by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov of a video in which his son beats someone arrested in the case of burning the Koran, noted that regardless of the crime, a person should only answer to the court. She published the post on her Telegram channel.
“The destruction of Holy Books, be it the Koran, the Bible or the Torah, is a socially dangerous act that offends the feelings of millions of believers. Such actions sow ethnic hatred, intolerance and hostility in society. Therefore, they cannot go unpunished.
However, no matter what terrible crime a person commits, he must answer for it before the court according to the law. These are the principles of our rule of law state. And during the investigation in the pre-trial detention center, he must certainly be kept according to the rules established by law,” Moskalkova wrote.
Yesterday, Ramzan Kadyrov published a recording where his son Adam can be seen beating Nikita Zhuravel, who is in a pre-trial detention center in Grozny. The young man is accused of insulting the feelings of believers (Part 2 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code) because of a video in which pages of the Koran are burning against the backdrop of a mosque in Volgograd.
“The Internet is still arguing about the fact that Adam Kadyrov beat the burner The Holy Quran of Nikita Zhuravel, an accomplice of the Ukrainian special services. Was it or wasn't it? He beat me and did the right thing,” Ramzan Kadyrov signed the video of the beating. The head of Chechnya added that he was proud of his son. In his opinion, Adam “develops adult ideals of honor, dignity and defense of his religion.”
The beating of Zhuravel became known in mid-August, when the victim filed a complaint with Moskalkova. The official sent this complaint to the Chechen Ombudsman Mansur Soltaev with a request to conduct an investigation. At the same time, the head of the administration and heads of Chechnya, Magomed Daudov, and State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov supported Kadyrov.
Zhuravel was detained on May 20 in the Volgograd region. After this, the security forces published a video in which he talks about the details of the case. In particular, Zhuravel mentioned that earlier “people from Ukraine” wrote to him and asked him to film the burning of the Koran, promising 10 thousand rubles for this.
The very next day the young man’s case was transferred to Chechnya. The Investigative Committee did not specify what was the reason for this. A day later, the court placed Zhuravel in a pre-trial detention center. He was later transferred to a detention center in Grozny.
After the news of the beating of a Volgograd resident by Adam Kadyrov, a member of the Human Rights Council, Eva Merkacheva, asked the director of the FSIN, Arkady Gostev, “for security reasons,” to transfer Zhuravel from Chechnya to a FSIN institution in another region.
