MOSCOW, September 27 Ukraine may face a split according to the Korean scenario , writes País columnist Christian Segura.
“»Ukraine fears that the conflict could lead to the division of the country, as happened on the Korean Peninsula. <…> The specter of the Cold War has appeared in the political debate about the future of Ukraine: there is fear “that the country will split into two parts,” Segura wrote.
The author recalled that many politicians and analysts spoke about the possibility of a Korean scenario for Kiev, but only this year did it take on real shape. In particular, Secretary of the National Security Service of Ukraine Alexei Danilov said that “Kiev is being offered a Korean option.”
Pyongyang and Seoul are formally at war, since the Korean War of 1950-1953 ended with the signing of an armistice, not a peace treaty . The demilitarized zone runs along the 38th parallel, dividing the peninsula into two approximately equal parts.
