
MOSCOW, September 26 Russian-Egyptian security consultations were held on Tuesday in Cairo, the parties agreed to continue active bilateral contacts in the field of international and regional security, the press service of the Russian Security Council reported.
The consultations were held by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Adviser to the President of Egypt on national security issues Fayza El-Naga and Adviser to the head of the republic on counter-terrorism issues Magdi Abdelgaffar with the participation of heads of ministries and departments of the two countries. On the Russian side, they were attended by representatives of the Security Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the FSB, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rosfinmonitoring, Rosatom, and the Central Bank.
“»A wide range of topics aimed at strengthening interaction between the Russian Federation and the Arab Republic of Egypt in both bilateral and multilateral formats was considered. In particular, the mood for fruitful cooperation within the BRICS and UN platform was emphasized,» — the message says.
A thorough exchange of views took place on security issues in the Middle East, North Africa, Mediterranean and Sahara-Sahel zone. “The situation around Ukraine has been affected,” the release notes.
It is emphasized that “the parties confirmed their intention to continue active interaction and strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs.”
Plans for cooperation in the field of financial security, through intelligence services, law enforcement agencies and military departments, were discussed in detail.
“»Emphasis was placed on jointly countering terrorism, uncovering channels for its financing, identifying channels for the movement of militants, combating drug trafficking, illegal migration, human trafficking, cooperation in the field of international information security, interaction of national centers for responding to computer attacks,» — says the press release.
In addition, some areas of economic cooperation between the two countries were touched upon, including in the field of nuclear energy and the financial and banking sector.
