MOSCOW, September 28 Secretary General of the International University Sports Federation ( FISU) Eric Centron expressed the hope that Russian students will return to competitions under the auspices of the organization after the completion of the SVO.
Centron and acting FISU President Leonc Eder took part in the second European Congress of Sports and Tourism, which takes place in Zakopane, Poland. During the congress, the question of the influence of politics on sports and Russia's participation in international sports tournaments was raised.
“
“I hope that students from Russia will return to FISU competitions after the end of hostilities,” the official FISU website quotes Centron as saying.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus were suspended from competitions under the auspices of FISU due to SBO in 2022. Due to the events in Ukraine, Yekaterinburg was deprived of the right to host the Summer Universiade in 2023; instead, the organizing committee of the competition organized the International University Sports Festival in the city not under the auspices of FISU.
