MOSCOW, September 30 Purchased on the Internet, where “gray” imports are common, iPhone 15 and other new smartphone models may not support the Russian communication range, due to why the user risks encountering interruptions in the operation of mobile communications or being left without it if the gadget does not register on the network, said Natalya Golitsyna, head of the telephony department of the MTS retail network.
The expert clarified that domestic retailers have already opened official sales of the iPhone 15, but in addition to retail chains, new items are sold on message boards and marketplaces. However, unlike chain stores, devices purchased on the Internet are mainly imported “gray” and do not provide any quality guarantees to users.
«First of all, you need to understand that any smartphone model, including the iPhone 15, may be intended for a specific telecom operator for sale under a contract, for example, an American or Canadian operator, therefore, when activating a smartphone in the networks of another operator or in another country, the phone simply may not register on the network. This means that the owner of the smartphone will not be able to use mobile communications,» Golitsyna said.
According to her, another important problem that users of “gray” smartphones may encounter is frequency ranges. So, depending on the country, frequencies for mobile communications may differ, so a smartphone designed to work in another country may not fully support the Russian range. This, in turn, may affect “the speed of the mobile Internet connection and bring considerable discomfort to the user.” At the same time, large sellers test all imported smartphones in their own laboratories.
