VELIKY NOVGOROD, September 29 The Kurchatov Institute is working on creating a neuromorphic computer that will imitate the functioning of the human brain, said Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute.
According to Kovalchuk, the human brain, which simultaneously controls many processes in the body, is superior to artificial intelligence. Therefore, a new type of computer is needed.
“You don’t actually reproduce intelligence and you can’t… You take an array of data and make it so that you can simultaneously spin a huge amount of data… This is, roughly speaking, artificial intelligence. This is pure electrical costs. .. Therefore, it is necessary to develop energy and create a neuromorphic computer, that is, a computer that will be similar to the brain… This is what we are doing at the Kurchatov Institute,” said Kovalchuk.
He also added that any technology is dangerous, so state control is needed.
“»Everything is dangerous. A car appeared — people appeared who were hit by a car. Atomic weapons appeared, but they were taken under control, and at the same time they created nuclear energy. So here, we need regulatory ethics,» Kovalchuk noted.
In Veliky Novgorod, on September 29-30, the final of the All-Russian scientific and practical conference “Connection of Times and Technologies” is being held, dedicated to the relationship of technology with history and culture, as well as the impact on society. One of the organizers is the Kurchatov Institute.
