MOSCOW, September 30 Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin believes that new formats of cooperation between Russia and Cuba have shown their effectiveness.
As reported on the State Duma website, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin on Saturday met with Chairman of the National Assembly of People's Power and State Council of the Republic of Cuba Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez. The meeting took place within the framework of the First International Parliamentary Conference «Russia — Latin America».
““Our relations are developing, and the new formats that we have chosen have shown their effectiveness,” Volodin noted. According to him, this is evidenced by a sixfold increase in trade turnover between the countries.
Volodin believes that the dynamics of relations between Russia and Cuba are primarily set by the presidents of the two countries. “Our task is to legislatively ensure the implementation of their decisions and maintain constant contacts within the framework of interparliamentary relations,” he said.
All factions of the State Duma are united in their desire to develop relations with Cuba, the Chairman of the State Duma added.
Volodin recalled that in April the first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba was held in Havana. “Decisions have been made that will allow us to further build relations, jointly develop the economy, and bring our positions closer together,” says the Chairman of the State Duma.
Volodin added that it is right to expand cooperation in the humanitarian sphere and education.
He also invited Esteban Lazo Hernandez to speak at a plenary session in the State Duma.
