MOSCOW, October 3 Spanish coach Pep Clotet has done a great job at Torpedo, but the latest results forced the management to make a difficult decision, since everyone needed a shake-up, said the president of the Moscow football club, Yaroslav Savin.
Torpedo announced Clotet's resignation from the post of head coach of the team earlier on Tuesday. In his place, ex-coach of Yenisei and Nizhny Novgorod Artem Gorlov was appointed acting.
«» Josep and his assistants introduced new modern standards in the construction of training and general organizational processes in the club. Football players have repeatedly told me that in terms of the level of organization of the training process and the interaction of the club with the team, we have become closer to the leaders of the RPL. Thanks to Pep and his staff, we have become stronger and we will continue to use his achievements,” the club’s official website quotes Savin as saying.
«The club and coach supported each other until the very end, understanding that we all needed time to get used to each other. Unfortunately, the team's recent results forced us to make a very difficult decision. We all needed a shake-up to stop, draw conclusions and become even better «, Savin noted.
Clotet has headed Torpedo since the spring of 2023. Under his leadership, the automakers were relegated from the Russian Premier League (RPL) and are now in ninth place in the First League championship, having also already been relegated from the National Cup. Under Clotet, the torpedo team played 23 matches, in which they suffered 15 defeats.
«»Josep did a great job, leading the team in the RPL at a very difficult moment. And then, together with his staff, he took on the serious responsibility of returning the team to the top division. Pep was sincerely imbued with our club, Moscow and Russia in general. A strong professional and a wonderful person. He bravely met with fans and always faced difficult challenges. During the entire time we worked with Pep, we had almost no disagreements. His dedication to his work and fanaticism in his work forced us all to become better and try to find new ones in ourselves additional resources,” added the club president.
