MOSCOW, Oct. 3 Presidential Press Secretary RF Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the departure of Nikolai Ryzhkov from the Federation Council, said that the contribution of such people to the development of Russia can hardly be overestimated; such people can only be admired and children can be taught by their example. Previously, the 94-year-old politician resigned early as a member of the Federation Council.
“It is probably difficult to overestimate the contribution of people like Ryzhkov to the development of our country. How much they did for people, how they spent their strength, their health — these are truly extraordinary people. Ryzhkov, who previously headed the Council of Ministers of the USSR, explained his departure by age. However, he hopes to continue working in the Federation Council as a voluntary adviser to the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentin Matvienko. Ryzhkov was the oldest senator, he was 94 years old. The former chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR represented the government of the Belgorod region in the Federation Council for 20 years — since 2003.
