Tuareg rebels in Mali say they have captured a government camp

MOSCOW, Oct 4 Tuareg rebels captured a government camp in the village of Touasse in eastern Mali, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing a representative of the Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) group, Mohamed El-Mawloud Ramadan.
«Mohammed El-Mawloud Ramadan… reported that his fighters took control of the Malian army camp in Touasse after the battle,» the report said.
As the agency notes, over the past few weeks the Tuaregs have already captured five camps of government forces.

Mali has faced a political and security crisis since jihadist and separatist insurgencies broke out in the north of the country in 2012. More than a decade of violent fighting in the country has led to tangible consequences, including massive forced displacement and a catastrophic humanitarian situation. The UN estimates that about 8.8 million people in Mali are in need of humanitarian assistance.
