MOSCOW, October 5 Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov called another search in Germany part of the “Matryoshka” operation, which the country’s customs authorities are conducting against him.
The Bild publication wrote that in the federal state of Bavaria near the resort of Tegernsee, employees of the sanctions enforcement department of the German customs service searched the villa of Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov and confiscated at least two premium cars.
“The actions of German law enforcement agencies regarding Alisher Usmanov cause great surprise and a sense of shame,” Usmanov’s press service said.
Usmanov always properly declared his legally acquired personal property, and also disclosed with what funds he acquired it, the press service indicated.
They recalled that back in May 2022, Usmanov handed over to German law enforcement agencies information about all the property he acquired in Germany and other EU countries over the past 20 years, as well as about his income and expenses for this period, which was accompanied reports from international experts from the Big Four auditing companies.
«With respect to the property of the trust that he once founded, Usmanov stated that he is its founder, but he is not the owner and does not have the rights to control or manage its assets. In this regard, he cannot know what is currently happening with the property owned by the trust,” the press service added.
“We note that the search that took place looks like another episode of intimidation and political persecution, with a hint of nationality, which is not hidden in the name of the special investigative commission of the German customs “Matrjoschka,” the representative of the businessman emphasized.
