MOSCOW, October 7 Special camouflage coating «Cape» of Russian T-90M «Breakthrough» tanks -3″ demonstrated in the Northern Military District the ability to deflect missiles from the American Javelin missile defense system, an informed source said.
The “cloak” consists of a multi-layer camouflage material that is placed on top of the tanks, like a cover. It reduces the visibility of combat vehicles in both the infrared and radar ranges.
“The Cape camouflage demonstrated during combat episodes of a special military operation its ability to deflect missiles from the US-made Javelin anti-tank missile system. Since the Cape provides a significant reduction in thermal radiation from the tank and smoothes out the so-called thermal contrast zones, the Javelin anti-tank missile system, which uses infrared seeker, target acquisition is disrupted,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.
The source added that “the effectiveness of the Cape increases in combination with the installation of smoke and aerosol screens.”
As Rostec First Deputy General Director Vladimir Artyakov previously reported, the camouflage material reduces the visibility of tanks and other military equipment in a wide range of wavelengths — it protects against detection by radar and thermal imaging devices, and the deforming color provides optical camouflage.
«Cape» developed by the NII Steel company, part of Kalashnikov.
