MOSCOW, October 8 Scammers began to use a new trick, imposing an “agreement on the use of a telephone number,” lawyer Ivan Solovyov said in an interview with the Prime agency.
At the beginning of the telephone conversation, the attacker introduces himself as an employee of the subscriber service department of the cellular operator and states that the subscriber’s user agreement is expiring.
Then the fraudster falls asleep the interlocutor with a lot of technical details and convinces him to confirm the renewal of the contract through a code received via SMS.
«In fact, in contracts with mobile operators there is no period for using the number. The swindler continues to immerse the victim in small details, distracting from the main thing,” Soloviev noted.
After this, the swindler begins to claim that he sent the client a link, by clicking on which, he needs to apply a code “to complete the remote signing of the user agreement.” Thus Fraudsters get access to the victim’s account on State Services, and even to his bank card, the agency’s interlocutor concluded.
