The State Duma responded to Kadyrov’s proposal to cancel the presidential elections

MOSCOW, Oct. 7 In the State Duma reacted differently to the proposal of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, to cancel the presidential elections for the period of the SVO: State Duma deputy Sultan Khamzaev proposed holding elections in the format of a national referendum, and the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, Nina Ostanina, criticized the initiative and considered such a proposal to be a desire to declare to yourself.
Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov proposed temporarily canceling the upcoming presidential elections in the Russian Federation due to a special operation, or holding them with one candidate — Vladimir Putin.

«I believe that presidential elections can be held in the format of a national referendum. In the conditions of the Northern Military District, in my opinion, this is the most suitable format,» Khamzaev said.

The deputy emphasized that there is a suitable example from the recent past — voting on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 2020. “Everyone understands perfectly well that there is one president in Russia, who exists and, I am sure, will exist,” Khamzaev noted.
“The special operation has been going on for a year now, this has not in any way influenced the decision to cancel the elections to regional parliaments that took place, the elections of governors that took place, so this proposal seems strange to me,” Ostanina, in turn, said.
According to Ostanina, a similar proposal had already been made by the head of the A Just Russia — For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, when it came to the elections of governors and legislative assemblies, but it did not receive support.
“Our special operation does not in any way interfere with the process of forming power, so even now the desire to somehow show off to the president is common to everyone, so to speak, who is in power, but everyone tries in their own way,” Ostanina emphasized.

Presidential elections in Russia will be held in 2024; in February, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that elections to local and regional authorities in September and presidential elections in 2024 will be held in strict accordance with the law.
