BELGOROD, October 9 Governor of the Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov appointed ex — the head physician of the regional hospital, Zhanna Chefranov, as a senator from the region instead of the departed Nikolai Ryzhkov. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

"Had a working meeting with Zhanna Yuryevna Chefranova, the former head physician of the Belgorod Regional Clinical Hospital of St. Joasaph, who from today will represent the interests of Belgorod residents in the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. “We discussed priority tasks and plans for the development of our region,” he wrote.
The governor noted that the region is going through a difficult time, when regional budget revenues are declining and housing and social infrastructure damaged as a result of shelling are being restored.

We must not forget about the current development of the economy, the provision of social assistance to our residents — the tasks that our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin set for us. Also one of the basic directions for us is healthcare,» added the head of the region.
As he emphasized, for a long time the duties of senator from the Belgorod region in the Federation Council were performed by Nikolai Ryzhkov. “However, it seems to me that we are making the right decision — with Zhanna Yuryevna’s approach, with her characteristic firmness in achieving her goals, we will have many results ahead that we can proudly present to our residents,” Gladkov concluded.
Previously, Chefranova held the position of chief physician of the Belgorod Regional Clinical Hospital of St. Joasaph. In the recent elections on September 10, she entered the regional Duma in the Grayvoronsky single-mandate electoral district No. 12.
Nikolai Ryzhkov was the oldest senator, he was 94 years old. The former chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR represented the government of the Belgorod region in the Federation Council for 20 years — since 2003. His powers as a senator were terminated early on September 25, 2023.
