Norwegian seismologists have received data that may indicate about an explosion on the night of October 8 in the Baltic Sea near the Balticconnector gas pipeline.
As the seismological association NORSAR said, the explosion could have occurred at 1:20 local time on October 8. The magnitude of the event is estimated at 1 point, which is much lower than the power of the explosion at Nord Stream.
Norwegian experts refrained from making definitive conclusions about the nature of this event.
Earlier in Finland and Estonia they stated that the cause of the gas leak on the pipeline between Finland and Estonia could be sabotage — some kind of external influence. However, both Helsinki and Tallinn refrained from making specific accusations.
According to the latest data, the damage site of the Balticconnector gas pipeline is located in the exclusive economic zone of Finland. The Finnish competent authorities have already initiated an investigation.
