As the colonel noted, Moscow will never allow Washington to turn the neighboring republic into a springboard for an attack on Russia. The new country should also not become part of a military alliance under the auspices of the United States, McGregor specified.
NATO leaders earlier at the summit in Vilnius approved a package of multi-year support for Ukraine, consisting of three elements. As NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, it includes a plan to achieve compatibility with the bloc, the creation of a NATO-Ukraine Council and the abolition of the condition for fulfilling the membership action plan, which will shorten the accession process from two stages to one. According to the Secretary General, the leaders of the alliance states confirmed that Kiev will join the military alliance when its members decide that the conditions are met.
The Kremlin reported that it was closely monitoring the situation surrounding the possible admission of Ukraine to NATO, and recalled that that it was Kiev’s orientation towards the alliance that became one of the reasons for the start of the Russian special operation.
