MOSCOW, October 12 The Prosecutor General's Office will check the legality of the decision of the Wildberries marketplace to introduce fees for paying for goods with cards of foreign payment systems and charging fees for returning purchases, reported the press service of the supervisory authority.
«On behalf of (Prosecutor General. — Ed.) Igor Krasnov <…> supervisory measures are being carried out in connection with information about the introduction by the Wildberries marketplace of commissions for paying for goods with using Visa and Mastercard cards, as well as charging customers a fee for returning goods,” the department said, noting that Rospotrebnadzor and the financial regulator, the Bank of Russia, are also involved in the audit.
Wildberries introduced a commission of three percent of the cost order when paid with a Visa or Mastercard payment system card issued in Russia. The company itself told the agency that this is how the remuneration of the bank processing the payment is collected. The marketplace itself, as stated in the press service, does not have the ability to process transactions on such cards directly.
The GP promised to pay special attention to the validity of Wildberries’ actions, respect for consumer rights, and prevention of the use of illegal schemes for the purpose of extracting excess commercial income and take “exhaustive response measures” if violations are found.
