NTI explained what is required to develop the UAS market

MOSCOW, October 13 The development of the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry in Russia requires developments in group and swarm control of drones, the head of the Aerial Robotics Laboratory of the NTI Competence Center for direction «Technology of components of robotics and mechatronics» Dmitry Devitt.
“The development of the unmanned industry in Russia will be facilitated by the introduction of intelligent systems for swarm and group control of robotic systems. However, there is very little development today in this promising area for engineers,” he said.
According to him, today in the development of intelligent systems for swarm and group control of robotic systems in terms of UAS, there are two barriers — technological and regulatory.

“The technological problem is solved systematically and requires a large scientific background in various end-to-end technologies: communications, control systems, computer vision and machine learning. The regulatory problem requires, first of all, verification of technologies and confirmation of their readiness. Unfortunately, most often this turns into a vicious circle, when in order to to create technology, we need flights, but we cannot fly until there is a well-functioning technology,” the expert said.

He noted that for applied tasks group control is not necessary; it is enough to have a reliable centralized autonomous control system. But if you look at the promising tasks, they mostly relate to dual-use and military tasks. Among peaceful things in the area of BAS, a good example would be the autonomous search for missing people, the creation of autonomous scanning systems.
