MOSCOW, October 11. The exhibition «The Trial. Franz Kafka and the Art of the 20th Century» opened at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center. At the ceremony, representatives of the institution expressed condolences to all those affected by the attacks in Israel, and also spoke about parallels with the writer’s work in the modern world and classical Russian literature.

When we mounted this exhibition, the events of the last days so rhymed with the space, with the plots that we had collected to illustrate Kafka, that it was very difficult to separate the real space from the fictional one «. Therefore, I want to note our pain and condolences to all the victims. We all, the entire museum, are bearing it all very hard, and perhaps the reflections of the audience at this exhibition about human nature are our contribution to the struggle and confrontation,» the curator said exhibitions Maria Gadas.
The exhibition «The Trial. Franz Kafka and the Art of the 20th Century» is organized as an illustration of the parallels between the writer's works and the largest artistic phenomena of the 20th century.
The first route is built along the lines of one of Kafka's most famous stories, «The Metamorphosis». The sudden transformation of Gregor Samsa, who woke up after a restless sleep, into a giant insect is visualized by the works of German expressionists: Georg Grosz, Max Pechstein, Egon Schiele and others.
The second path leads to space , similar to the office in which both Kafka and the protagonist of the novel “The Trial” Joseph K worked. It presents works by conceptualists: Joseph Kosuth, Ilya Kabakov, Viktor Pivovarov, Dmitry Prigov and other artists.
The exhibition will be open until 14 January 2024.
