BISHKEK, October 13 Heads of the CIS countries at At the summit in Bishkek, they agreed to support and promote the Russian language in their states, it follows from the joint statement signed by the presidents.
«We will contribute to the implementation of practical measures to support and promote the Russian language at the national level in accordance with national legislation and in the international arena while maintaining our linguistic identity and developing linguistic diversity,» the document says.
In the statement, the leaders of the countries also emphasized the inadmissibility of discrimination on the basis of language and the creation of obstacles to communication in Russian. At the same time, the presidents spoke out “for expanding the use of the Russian language in the economic, cultural, humanitarian and scientific fields” and expressed their readiness “to make joint efforts to increase its attractiveness and popularization among broad sections of the population of the Commonwealth countries.”
“Aimed at encouraging the desire of young people to study and use the Russian language, creating favorable conditions and opportunities to meet the needs for its study,” the document specifies.
The statement also mentions the intention “to provide support in the Commonwealth countries to Russian-language media, publishing activities in Russian, including in matters of maintaining and expanding ties between publishing houses with Russian-speaking writers and other figures in education, culture and art.”
