UN, October 16 Russia has submitted to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly a draft new resolution entitled “Space technologies for promoting peace,” he said in an interview Director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Ermakov to Russian journalists.
The First Committee deals with disarmament issues. Ermakov heads the Russian delegation to this committee.
According to him, the relevance of initiatives to preserve space for research and use for purely peaceful purposes, to prevent the arms race and the placement of weapons in outer space, as well as to launch negotiations on the development of a specialized legally binding instrument is increasing.
«Reacting to the current situation, Russia submitted to the First Committee of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly a number of draft resolutions on space issues, including a new document «Space technologies for promoting peace,» — Ermakov said.
“We call for a refusal to use civilian space infrastructure for undeclared purposes, including for interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states and participation in armed conflicts,” he indicated.
As the director of the department noted , Moscow expects that the document will receive broad international support and will be respected by all UN member states.
