The Irkutsk Garrison Military Court sentenced conscript Vadim Tarasov to two years in a general regime colony for escaping from his unit in 2005. The journalistic project “Siberian Express” drew attention to the publication of the decision.
On April 22, 2005, the conscript, who was then 21 years old, escaped from the military unit and went to his sister on a freight train. An acquaintance to whom the Siberian told that he had lost his documents offered him housing and unofficial work. Soon the man met his partner, with whom he had two children.
39-year-old Tarasov was detained by police on May 20, 2023, while he was riding a scooter, due to the fact that the man was wanted. The Sibiryak was accused of desertion (Part 1 of Article 338 of the Criminal Code) and was released on an obligation to appear. After the verdict was announced, the man was sent to a pre-trial detention center.
