Russia has become the leader in maritime exports to Turkey

< br />

ISTANBUL, Oct. 17 In September, Russia led the export of goods to Turkey by sea, increasing supply volumes by more than 11% over the year, Turkey's import structure consists mainly of oil, diesel fuel and coal; grain does not rank among the top volumes, as follows from calculations based on data from the Turkish Maritime Administration.
In total, Turkish ports handled more than 42.4 million tons of cargo in September, down 2.9% compared to September 2022. The volume of cargo handled since the beginning of the year compared to the same period in 2022 also decreased by 4.2% and exceeded 391.8 million tons, not least due to February figures, when one of the most important ports was out of service after devastating earthquakes Iskenderun.

The busiest ports remain Kocaeli in the west of the country and Aliaga in the Izmir region.

Russia ranks first among the countries that exported goods to Turkey by sea — in September the volume of shipments exceeded 7.4 million tons, compared to 6.7 million tons in September 2022. Only slightly less than 4% of this volume was delivered by ships flying the Turkish flag. Next come Egypt, the USA, Greece and Iraq. Ukraine, which ranked fifth in the list of exporters a year earlier, dropped out of the top five.
As for the structure of imports to Turkey, it follows from the department’s data that the largest volume came from crude oil (the Russian Federation supplied almost 1.5 million tons), coal (about 1.7 million tons from Russia), diesel (from Russia — more than 1 .2 million tons), scrap metal and coal coke (about a million tons). A year earlier, the top five were supplies of wheat and meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye), Russia and Ukraine supplied almost a million tons per month, but now these goods are not among the leaders in volume, apparently due to the termination of the grain deal.
At the same time, Turkey supplied the largest volume of products by sea in September to Italy (more than 1.3 million tons), the USA, Israel, Egypt and Spain. The data provided by the management does not take into account deliveries by containers.
