MOSCOW, 18 Oct. SUSU scientists presented a completely Russian development of a hybrid garbage truck that runs on both an internal combustion engine and electric propulsion. As noted in the press service of the university, the development will make it possible to silently move along the streets of megacities, without emitting greenhouse and toxic gases into the atmosphere.
The designers explained that the “hybridity” of the car is needed in order to move silently in the city, and when moving between populated areas, develop a higher speed using an internal combustion engine.

“The maximum speed of our car is up to 90 kilometers per hour, it is achieved using a conventional engine. The highest speed on the battery reaches 60 kilometers per hour, there is no need for more, since electric traction will be used specifically for moving around the yards,” said Ramil Zakirov, director of the Research Institute of Experimental Mechanical Engineering at South Ural State University (SUSU).
The researcher emphasized that the hybrid garbage truck on the chassis of the Ural car is a completely domestic development.
According to preliminary estimates, the presented model will be able to cover longer distances using electric propulsion than existing Russian analogues. This is due to the original development of a high-capacity charge storage device based on SUSU and partner enterprises.
«We have now begun design tests of our prototype: it has already been able to cover the distance from Zlatoust to Miass and back without recharging, which is about 100 kilometers,” said Zakirov.
In the future, the developers plan to increase the distance covered by the hybrid garbage truck without recharging.
